Mai is a New York-based Japanese artist.
Growing up surrounded by the rich natural environment of Japan, she was raised by her grandfather, a sake craftsman and farmer; her grandmother, who loved cooking, and her mother, who worked for a sewing company.

From an early age, she learned how things are created from nature and by hand. Keeping her surroundings organized, eating home-cooked meals, and living in harmony with nature became part of the foundation of her creative life.

After she began making jewelry in New York, Mai found herself reconnecting with her roots. She began to recognize how the way of life taught by her strict grandfather was connected to the values of Zen and Buddhism, giving her a new appreciation and perspective on life.

The rebellious spirit that grew from the strictness of her childhood has also remained with her. It represents her desire to step outside conventional systems and remain true to herself as an individual. Today, that spirit exists alongside a desire to give back—to people, society, and the Earth—through what she creates.

This is MY LOVE.

Unorthodox and organic.
The rustic condition.

Surrender myself to the sensation of my own hands and the shapes that flow naturally.

The rusty, unadorned nature that I have seen since I was a little has been nostalgic, ingrained in me. It is always next to me. There is no need to decorate it any further, and nothing less. It simply means that things are most beautiful just as they are.

Just cherish own beliefs, enjoy the fleeting nature of life, and live each day.
